Exercise Physiology in EPC and DVA
"We know of no single intervention with greater promise than physical exercise to reduce the risk of virtually all chronic diseases simultaneously" - Booth et al 2000
Physio Plus exercise physiologists are accredited members of Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA), and are registered with Medicare Australia and Department of Veterans Affairs. As such, patients referred by their GP will have access to the following rebates:
Medicare (EPC Plans) - rebates of $50.05 each consultation
Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) - fully funded
What is an Exercise Physiologist?
- An accredited Exercise Physiologist (EP) is a tertiary graduate of Exercise Science or Human Movement studies, capable of meeting the stringent accreditation criteria determined by Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA).
- EP's are ideally suited to providing exercise and physical activity as a treatment strategy in physical rehabilitation, as a strategy for disease prevention, and physical conditioning to facilitate sustained functional independence.
Well suited to Team Care Arrangements and DVA patients
- EP's are able to match the immediate needs, goals and health status of the client with appropriate exercise and health interventions, and help in developing behavioural strategies that promote and assist in interventions being maintained regularly for a prolonged period of time.
- Strenuous exercise is not necessary or indicated in the management of chronic disease.
Recent research reveals that the most noticeable health benefits come from getting those who are inactive, to become slightly to moderately active. So the good news is we can noticeably improve the health profiles of inactive, de-conditioned and obese people with relatively low increases in physical activity.
Evidence-based management of metabolic and chronic musculoskeletal disorders
Considerable evidence-based research supports the benefits of exercise in the management of most chronic diseases. Consider exercise physiology for the following patient types:
Obesity - and co-morbidities
MMM Syndrome - metabolic disorders, complicated by associated mechanical and motivational issues.
Chronic musculo-skeletal disorders - osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, low back pain
